Lyell "Sonny" Cockrell, Sr.

Lyell “Sonny” Webster Cockrell, Sr., 89 of Millersville passed away on November 3, 2022. Sonny was born on August 27, 1933 in Brook Vale, Virginia to the late Julian and Ethel Cockrell. He served in the US Army from 1954 to 1962. Sonny was a longtime truck driver. He was a Mason, a 40-year member of American Legion Post 276 and an active member of Heritage Community Church in Severn, Maryland. Sonny was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles, Ravens and Colts and also enjoyed NASCAR.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Theresa F. Cockrell; his devoted children, Mark Anthony Cockrell, Sr. and his wife, Barbara; Lyell Webster Cockrell, Jr., and David Penna Cockrell; his loving grandchildren, Mark Anthony Cockrell, Jr., Anna Marie Cockrell and Leslie Nicole Cockrell; his dear great-grandchildren, Antonio Jameson Wright III and Ryleigh Rose Beasley.

The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Ave. SW (at Crain Hwy) on Saturday, November 12th from 10 am – 12 Noon. A Funeral Service will follow at 12 Noon in the funeral home chapel. Interment Glen Haven Memorial Park.
