On January 26, 2017, Mabel Jane Holmes, 84, passed away at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. Mabel was born on May 4, 1932, in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, to the late Mary and Joseph Leeper. She was a current member of Brooklyn Community United Methodist Church and member of Curtis Bay United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women. Mabel enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading, and shopping.
Mabel is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Lester S. Holmes; her beloved children, Leslie Gribben and her husband Donald, and Dr. Gary Holmes and his wife Jo Ann; her loving grandchildren, Jennifer Swisher, Anna Holmes, Eve Holmes, and Eric Holmes; her cherished great-grandchildren, Robert Cook, Olivia Cook, Jacob Cook, and Eden Swisher; and her dear sister, Frances Dickerson. Mabel was predeceased by her son, Jeffrey Holmes and five siblings.
The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Ave, SW (at Crain Hwy), in Glen Burnie on Sunday, January 29th, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, January 30th, at 10 AM in the funeral home chapel. Interment Cedar Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mabel's name may be made to the Brooklyn Community United Methodist Church, 110 Townsend Avenue, Brooklyn Park, MD 21225.
