Mark A. Heiss

January 1, 1958 — April 12, 2025

Annapolis

Mark Arthur Heiss peacefully departed this life on April 12, 2025.

Mark was born in Baltimore on New Year’s Day, January 1, 1958 to Raymond and Vivian Pauline (Wills) Heiss. He grew up in Pasadena, Maryland with his two brothers – (John) Joseph and David – where he began life-long friendships which he cherished through his final moments.

Mark proudly served his country in the United States Army as a military policeman beginning in 1976 and received his honorable discharge in 1979. His military experience brought him to special places such as Fort Ord, California and West Germany.

In his youth, Mark developed his love for and dedicated service to the Anne Arundel Fire Department. He was an eager volunteer at Greenhaven Volunteer Fire Department Station. Later as an Anne Arundel County Firefighter and EMT, Mark had a superior work ethic and took pride in bringing safety, comfort and love to anyone he would encounter.

In 1991, Mark experienced a life-changing traumatic injury when, while responding to an emergency call for a house fire, he was injured when a chimney fell on his upper body. The accident resulted in the challenge of recovering while maintaining a weak heart.

After his retirement, Mark served on the Anne Arundel Human Relations Committee as member and also as Chairman. Mark also served on the Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFACs) at MedStar Harbor Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed many passions from cars, boats, family history, collectibles of American history to firefighter antiques and N-scale model trains.

In his later years, he met his wife, Mary, and found a new home in Littlestown, Pennsylvania.

Mark was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Vivian Pauline Heiss; and his brother David Heiss. He is survived by his wife Mary; brother, Joseph, and his sister-in-law Kay; his nephew, Joey, and niece, Pam. He was cherished by Mary’s children: Mary, Jimmy, Kathleen, and their families, as well as many more family members and wonderful, loving, devoted friends.

Mark’s countless, thoughtful deeds and actions toward his family and friends will be cherished. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him…and those who did are so fortunate.
