Martin Donegan

June 12, 1932 — January 5, 2021

Marty was called home at the age of 88 on January 5, 2021. Just like everything in life, he managed his brief illness with faith in God, strength, and selfless concern for others.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen Favazza Donegan, mother and father Katherine and Otto Donegan, his sister Imogene (Russ) Fitz, his brother John (Pat) Donegan, and his sister Mary (Bill) (nephew Keith) Smeltzer.  Marty is survived by his brothers Otto and Larry, and his sister Katie (Ron) Gamble, his children Marty (Patria), Andy (Kim), Michael (Lisa), Angela (Mark), his 12 grandchildren, his three great-grandchildren, and many other loved family members.

Marty retired from the military after 25 years of service in the Army.  He served three tours in Vietnam and was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and Bronze Star Medal, along with other awards and decorations. He went on to teach high school history for 15 years, where he shared his love for learning and desired to make a positive impact on his students.

Marty was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather; a dedicated soldier and teacher.  He enjoyed fishing as well as driving across the United States with Carmen. Most of all he cherished time spent with his beloved wife, family, neighbors, and friends.

He will be flown to California where he will be embraced by endeared Monterey family, living and deceased, and then join Carmen in their final resting place.
