Mary Mortell

September 9, 1934 — April 10, 2023

Millersville

Mary Ellen (Schultz) Mortell of Millersville, Maryland died on April 10 in BrightView Senior Living where she had been a resident for seven months. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years Bill Mortell and by their three children: John P. Mortell of Ellicott City, Kate Mortell Cawley of Milwaukee and Max T. Mortell of Hanover. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Fred A. Schultz, DDS and Kathryn A. (Murphy) Schultz and her brother Dr. Fred J Schultz, MD.

Mary and her family lived in a wide variety of locations, including Japan for eleven years in a seventeen year period. Mary and Bill’s children were all born in Japan and had intermittent stays in Maryland.

Mary graduated from Senn High School in Chicago and attended Luther College in Iowa before her marriage. Her first boat journey was to Yokohama to join her new husband. She continued her travels later in life when she joined a church group for a two-week trip to Israel, and a second group for a brief visit to Panama.

Mary also had an artistic side. In her younger years, she took painting lessons and remained creative in her later life. She had an Irish-German sense of humor and could recognize

its value in her everyday life.

Mary adopted dogs wherever she lived. She provided good homes and lots of puppy love to  Mikey, Sam, Misty, Pepsi, Molly, and Yankee Poodle.

Additionally, Mary was a Chicago Cubs fan and her favorite player was Mark Grace because he was a good clutch hitter. Mary will be laid to rest in Crownsville Veterans Cemetery on Monday, April 17th.
