Melanie Kay Murphy

Melanie Kay Murphy, a beloved member of the community, passed away on February 21, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness. Born on October 3, 1940, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, to the late Emma and Edwin Amos.   Melanie was a beacon of light to all who knew her.

Melanie dedicated her career to data processing at The Ohio State University, showcasing her commitment to excellence and precision. Her passion for education led her to earn two Bachelor's degrees from Glenville State College, one in Teaching and the other in Business.  Melanie's thirst for knowledge was evident in everything she pursued.

Outside of work and academia, Melanie found joy in a variety of hobbies and interests.  She delighted in solving jigsaw and crossword puzzles, engaging in games, attending sporting events and concerts, and traveling to new destinations.  However, her greatest love was reserved for her cherished dogs who brought her immense happiness and companionship.

Family was paramount to Melanie, and she found immense joy in the company of loved ones.  She is survived by her son Richard Gettmann, daughter-in-law Khatuna Gettmann, and grandchildren Ellen, Leanne, Diana Brady, and Mila Gettmann, and good friend Tim Redman.  Melanie predeceased by David Gettmann - her other son - Thomas Murphy - her husband - Carmen Manter - sister - Alvin Manter - brother-in-law - as well as Edwin Amos and Emma Butcher - her parents.

Melanie's presence illuminated the lives of those around her with love and compassion. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A visitation service will be held on February 25, 2024, at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services P.A. in Glen Burnie. The visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and conclude at 12:00 PM to honor Melanie's life and celebrate the beautiful soul she was.

In honoring Melanie Kay Murphy's memory, let us carry forward the love she spread and the kindness she embodied throughout our own lives.
