On March 11, 2011, Melvin Lowe Mitchell, a resident of Baltimore for 50 years, passed away at Marley Neck Health & Rehab. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Harvey and Phyllis Mitchell. Melvin served in the United States Army Air Force from 1944-1946. After he was honorably discharged, he worked as an engineer with B&O Railroad for 43 years. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Stoney Creek Fishing and Hunting Club, Inc., and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. His passion was reading and exploring nature, as well as music. Melvin is survived by his son, Melvin L. Mitchell and wife Jackie; grandchildren, Chrsitopher Mitchell and wife Shannon, Amanda Bilenki and husband Chris, Emily Mitchell, and Sarah Mitchell; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marian P. Mitchell-Lowman.
