Mordecai Ellsworth Buckingham, Jr., 85, died July 26, 2009 surrounded by his family. He was born August 10, 1923 in Baltimore, MD, the eldest of six children born to Eleanor and Mordecai E. Buckingham, Sr.
For close to 50 years, Mr. Buckingham worked as superintendant of plant maintenance and purchasing agent for the Maryland Glass Corporation and Chattanooga Glass Company. He was also the President of the Glass Blowers Association, Local 56, for over twenty years.
Mr. Buckingham was a decorated WWII veteran, having earned the Purple Heart and other medals during the liberation of France and Belgium. For most of his life following the war, he was an active member of the VFW and the American Legion.
Another civic organization to which Mr. Buckingham belonged was the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks. From 1985 to 1986, he served as the Exalted Ruler of the Elks, Lodge 140, in Mt. Vernon, Ohio.
Mr. Buckingham is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara; two sons, Mordecai and David; five grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, David, Jason, Lesley; one great-grandson, Christopher; and his brother, Jack.
