Otto Earl Hildebrand, 87, of Stevensville, MD passed away in Easton on October 10, 2014. He was born on January 1, 1927 in Baltimore, MD.
Otto was the 4th of 5 children born to his parents, Albina & George. Growing up during the Depression of the 1930's in Baltimore was no bed of roses. His father passed away when he was in the 8th grade, so he had to quit school at a young age and go to work to help provide for his family and those hard times as a child help develop his strong moral character and hard work ethics.
When Otto was 18 years old, he was drafted in the United States Army in 1945 and was sent off to Japan as World War II was ending and was stationed in Hokahama, Japan and served in the occupation as a Sergeant in the Army there.
In 1945, Otto met Dean Kepper and they were married, June 12, 1948. They had 4 children, Mark, Leslie, Keith and Drake. And in June of last year, Otto and Dean celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Otto didn't have expensive tastes or live a flashy lifestyle, but he knew what was important to him, and that was working hard and providing for his family. Luxury, to his, was having his children and their families around for the holidays and he always worried about if they were well cared for and he always made sure they had everything they needed.
He worked for the Maryland Drydock Company in the Navy Yard foundry as a metal caster for years before joining, NASA and worked at Goddard Space Flight Center as Building Engineer, then Inspector until he retired in 1986.
He was very gifted as a carpenter and could make anything out of wood. Carpentry was his favorite hobby and on weekends he would always have a project going on, building something for somebody or making wood furniture and things for people.
Mr. Hildebrand was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Bernadine K. Hildebrand.
He is survived by his children, Mark Hildebrand of Cordova, MD, Leslie Jordon of Denton, MD, Keith Hildebrand of Stevensville, MD and Drake Hildebrand of Stevensville, MD; his grandchildren, Brian Jordan, Carrie Johnson, David Hildebrand, Nicole Moczulski, Susan Jordan, Rebekah Hildebrand, Elizabeth Alder, Jack Hildebrand and Kyle Hildebrand; his great-grandchildren, Phoenix Johnson and Miles Moczulski.
