Ovid London

July 13, 1920 — August 13, 2018

On Monday, August 13th, Mr. Ovid London quietly transitioned to his heavenly home with God. Ovid was born in Den Amstel, Guyana on July 13, 1920 as the fourth of 11 children of Issac and Alexandrina London.

He graduated college at a young age and began working as a teacher. He was quickly promoted and became the Principal for several schools in his home country of Guyana, including one of the largest high schools in the country. He was a Master Educator and he had a positive impact on numerous people who are living in Guyana and those who have migrated to other countries.

He was married to the late Harrison DeHaarte on December 23rd, 1948. She preceded him in death, but their 65 years of marriage was blessed with 6 children, Hughette McKay (deceased), Trenton London (Sharon), Desryn Duncan (Kenneth), Dr. Trevin London (Dianne), Marcia Price, and Dr. Nicola London.

He was blessed with twelve grandchildren: Kenneth Duncan, Aleetra McKay, Dr. Colles Price (Ann), Ryan London (Melinda), Deidryn Duncan, Gerard Duncan, Trevelyne London, Christine London, Rodney Barnett, Chad Brooks, Nicholas Barnett, and Benjamin London; and two great-grandchildren, Micah Price and Harriet Price.

"Dad" as he was commonly called by all was a kind, patient and compassionate person and was always available to give advice or to be a listening ear. He had an uncanny sense of humor and would impart his many nuggets of wisdom to his children and grandchildren very freely. In his last days, he shared his indelible childhood memories with them with laughter and good cheer. God blessed him with an impeccable memory until the very end.

He was always an active member of his parish and served as church organist for several years. He had a steadfast faith in God and always believed that God had a plan and that He would take care of things in His way and His time. He instilled this philosophy in his children and grandchildren. He had a strong passion for music and encouraged all of his children to play a musical instrument, which they all do. He believed in education and stressed its importance to his children, who all left to pursue higher education in the United States and Canada. In order to be closer to his children and grandchildren, he and his wife immigrated to the United States.

Dad was well loved and well known for his ability to "fix" things, whether it was a piece of equipment or a problem that needed to be solved. His sense of humor was well known among both friends and family. He had the ability to quietly accept things and adapt to whatever the situation was. Dad, Grandpa will be greatly missed but will be forever in our hearts. In addition to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ovid London is survived by two sisters, Enid Jason and Sybil Cort.
