On July 25, Patricia J Martin Jackson, Patti to all of us, passed away from heart issues at the age of 61. Patti was born June 1, 1961 in Glen Burnie, MD to the late Mary Jo Martin and Jack Martin. She graduated from Andover High School in 1979. After graduation, she worked for the Department of Motor Vehicles until she transitioned to the University of Maryland Baltimore County in the Student Support Services Department.
Patti retired from the University of Maryland after more than 25 years of service. In 2008, she was recognized with the Board of Regents’ University System of Maryland Staff Award for her exceptional contributions to UMBC.
Her retirement was spent caring for her husband, Sean and her grandsons, Kellen and Korey. In wanting to be active in her grandsons’ school, St Philip Neri, Patti volunteered in the classroom, lunch and other activities. Patti absolutely loved creating art, crafting, and scrapbooking. She was incredibly talented and her work was published twice in Somerset Studio Magazine.
Her heart yearned for the beach specifically Dewey Beach, Ocean City and Bethany Beach so much so she would go if only for one night just for beach time, Grotto’s Pizza and Thrashers French fries.
She had a special love for all animals and would take care of strays all the time. She was one of the most genuine friends you could ever be fortunate enough to have. Her smile was infectious. Her heart was huge and she could care for everyone. Her unconditional love and support for her family and specifically for her grandsons, Kellen and Korey will never be forgotten.
Patti was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Kimberly Martin Clarke and Mary Jo Martin. She leaves behind her husband, Sean Jackson, her son, Steve Clarke, her grandsons, Kellen and Korey, Kathy Stearns and George Stearns, Niece and Nephew, Chelsea and Nick Stearns and a host of other family. Tamika Weaver, Tierra and Paris Black, Gina Gilberto, Dani Harris, Sandra Ambush, Sijo Jose, and Amy Bhattacharyya were also considered family.
Mrs. Martins Services & Inurnment will be held at a later date privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Small Miracles Cat and Dog Rescue, 10236 Baltimore National Pike, Ellicott City, MD 21042, (smallmiraclesrescue.org). Arrangements were handled by the Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services, PA, Glen Burnie, MD 21061.
