Paul Dean Newhouse, whose electrical engineering career spanned almost five decades, died on December 2 from natural causes after experiencing several years of declining health. He was 86 and had resided at the Charlestown Retirement Community for two years.

Mr. Newhouse was born and raised in Iowa, and graduated from Iowa State College with a degree in electrical engineering before entering World War II. He served in the Army as a Signal Corps officer.

In 1954, Mr. Newhouse brought his wife and two young children to Linthicum, MD where he continued to work for Westinghouse until 1973. He eventually retired in 1988 from ECAC-IITRI in Annapolis, MD after twenty five years, where he analyzed the electromagnetic compatibility of radar signals for the US Air Force. During his distinguished career, Mr. Newhouse was awarded many patents for his work and was inducted into three honorary engineering fraternities.

Mr. Newhouse enjoyed golfing, and in retirement became an accomplished artist displaying many of his paintings in various Anne Arundel County area art shows. He was also an avid reader of American Civil War and World War II history.
