Paul Philip Sr

May 4, 1932 — December 18, 2017

Paul A. Philip, Sr., passed away peacefully on December 18, 2017 after a year-long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by the love of his wife of 59 years, and his children and grandchildren, who stayed with him around the clock during his final days.
Paul was born on May 4, 1932 in Nanty Glo, PA. He was one of 13 children born to Emery and Helen Philip, who immigrated to the United States from Slovakia. Paul was a staff sergeant in the United States Air Force for four years in the 1950's. He was trained as a navigator, and was a Korean War veteran. He studied electrical engineering, and was employed at the Raytheon Company until his retirement in 1993. He had many accomplishments in his 30-year career, but he considered his five children his greatest success. He loved having family get-togethers, and spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially at Ocean City MD and Bethany Beach DE.
Paul was a gifted athlete who excelled in many sports through his lifetime. He enjoyed bowling, pitching horseshoes, and working out at Gold's Gym in Pasadena until he was well into his 80's. He loved to sing and care for his tomato plants in the summer. He never turned down an opportunity to go fishing with one of his sons.
Paul was a life-long Catholic, who trusted God through all of life's joys and trials. He was a man of integrity who lived the Golden Rule and modeled it to his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Lois (formally Koller), his five children, Paul (Suzanne), Mary, Lois, Mark (Teresa), and Michael, and his five grandchildren, Helen, Paulie, Elisabeth, Ben and Nic. We, his family, grieve his loss, and will remain forever grateful for the guidance, care and friendship of this faithful man.
Family and friends will be received at Singleton Funeral Home on Crain Highway in Glen Burnie on Thursday, December 21, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 22 at 12 noon at Our Lady of the Fields Church in Millersville, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
