Perry Sorrell

September 25, 1928 — June 22, 2013

Perry Austin Sorrell, 84, of Severna Park, passed away at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center on June 22, 2013. Perry was born on September 25, 1928 in Chilton County Coopers, Alabama. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant from 1949-1953. Perry earned his degree in electrical engineering from Auburn University in 1955 and went on to retire from Westinghouse after 38 years of service. There, he was a Senior Electrical Engineer and he developed the ASR-9 radar used in many airports around the country (now known as Doppler Radar). Perry was a member of Glen Burnie Baptist church since 1956 and helped form a Southern Gospel Quartet called "The Glen Burnie Baptist Quartet" over 40 years ago. At the church, he was also a deacon, helped design the sound system, helped maintain the heating and air conditioning system, sang in the choir, and was chairman of the Properties Committee. Perry enjoyed his family-especially his grandchildren, singing Southern Gospel music, motorcycles, water skiing, and repairing anything broken.
Perry is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Nancy B. Sorrell; his beloved daughters, Debbie Sorrell-Ulrich, Cathy Sorrell, and Angela Peri-Sorrell Ritter; his loving grandchildren, Emmie and Evan Potter, Morgan Ulrich, and Rachel Ritter; and his three dear sisters. Perry was predeceased by one brother and one sister.
