R. Stewart "Stew" Warnken was born in Baltimore in 1917, and attended public school there. His parents were Harry L. Warnken and Bertha Bishop Warnken. He started working in the office supply field as an errand boy at the age of 14. He later became a salesman and continued in that industry all of his working life. At age 63, when most people retire, along with his family he started the Cavalier Office Supply Company and continued there until his retirement a few years ago. He met Lillian M. Fowler of Brooklyn Park in an alley, a bowling alley that is, and in 1940 he they married. During World War II he served in the Coast Guard and was stationed at the Port of Baltimore. In 1954, with a small stipend from the Lion's Club, he organized "Linthicum Area Little League Baseball" which has grown to included other sports, and today is known as the Linthicum Ferndale Youth Athletic Association. He has been a member of the Linthicum Lions Club since 1953 where he served as president for several years and was awarded the Melvin Jones Humanitarian Award, and is a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Linthicum. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Lillian, and children Judy Warnken Smith, Tom Warnken and Patti Warnken Nemo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry L. Warnken and Bertha Bishop Warnken; his sister, Nellie Hewes and his brother, William Warnken. He has 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. "Stew" was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan, an enjoyed attending many of the activities and functions for the Team. He enjoyed traveling, the water, his friends and most of all his family.
