On January 1, 2008, Robert Luther 'Bob' Auman of Beltsville passed on. Bob is survived by his 1st ex-wife, Thelma Sirmans Auman of Glen Burnie, Maryland; their daughter, Kathryn Epple and her husband George of Baltimore, Maryland; their son, David and his wife Cynthia of Purcellville, Virginia; his 2nd ex-wife, Elizabeth Harvey Auman of Bowie, Maryland; his brother, Elmer Auman and his sister, Dorothy Mengel, both of Reading, Pennsylvania. He was predeceased by his daughter, Joy Auman. Bob was born on March 6, 1925 to parents Charles Elmer and Elsie Frieda Catherine Schoellkopf Auman and grew up in Reading, Pennsylvania. He served as a Post Chaplain's Assistant in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in music at the John B. Stetson University in DeLand, Florida in 1949 and a Masters Degree at the University of Rochester Eastman School of Music. He was a resident of DeLand, Florida, in a house he designed and constructed, and also resided in Beltsville, Maryland. During his career in music, Bob was a Music Teacher and Choral Director at DeLand Senior High School, Glen Burnie High School, Marley Junior High School, and several high schools in Fairfax County, Virginia. He worked briefly as an editor at Vitro Systems and also at KTA, Inc. which produced solar collectors. He was a church organist and choir director at the St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Deland, St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Arlington, Virginia, and St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church in Bethesda, Maryland. He directed a local Choral Guild in DeLand. Bob was a Composer who produced several musical works, including a piece entitled 'Proverb'. He enjoyed many hobbies including architecture, carpentry, woodworking, stained glass, silk screen printing, model trains, and kites. He built musical instruments, including dulcimers and kalimbas, and conducted workshops to teach the craft to high schools students. He enjoyed travel and attending concerts. Bob was a disciplined and creative person who will be missed by many.
