Robert James Swickard, better known to his family and friends as Bob, died of congestive heart failure on Saturday, the 26th of October 2024, at his home in Glen Burnie, Maryland, where he had lived for the past nine years. Born and raised in Alliance, Ohio, Bob graduated from Marlington High School in 1974. He continued his education at the Ohio Institute of Technology where he graduated from the Electronics Technician Program in 1977.
Bob enjoyed tinkering with electronics and repairing all types of equipment, but his deep passion for the outdoors led to a satisfying career as a groundskeeper at golf courses in Ohio, North Carolina, Florida, and Arizona. While living in Phoenix, he launched a successful business of his own, but was forced to return to North Carolina several years later due to health issues. He moved to Maryland in 2014 to be closer to his sisters and their families.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Ernie Swickard of Alliance, Ohio; his older brother Richard “Dick” of Clayton, North Carolina; and his younger sister, Adele Swickard Mathis of Randallstown, Maryland. He is survived by his older sister Deborah “Deb” Swickard of Glen Burnie, Maryland, and an assortment of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a great-great-niece.
