Rosalie Walker Edwards was born on January 13, 1932 in Fayetteville, North Carolina to the late Rosadell Walker Leman. Rosalie lived in Fayetteville until she relocated to Baltimore, Maryland with her mother in the 1940's. Upon her mother's marriage to Charles Leman, the family moved to Pasadena, Maryland where she attended Bates High School. During Rosalie's residency in Anne Arundel County, she met the late Charles M. Edwards, Sr. In May 1949, the two married and through their union were blessed with seven children; five girls and two boys.
Rosalie was a loving mother and made the home warm, especially during the holidays. Memories of shoeboxes full of candies, fruits, and nuts at Christmas and elaborate baskets at Easter will always be cherished by her family. Rosalie creatively prepared meals for the family and was known for her wonderful desserts.
Rosalie was employed with the State of Maryland for over 40 years. The majority of her tenure was at Crownsville Hospital Center where she retired as an Activity Therapist in 1995. She was very concerned about the welfare and rights of others. Her passion for the cause of equity was exemplified through working many years as President of the AFSCME Union Local 92. Rosalie's union service during the 60's through the 90's afforded her opportunities to travel nationwide. Her favorite pastimes were playing cards, scrabble, and bowling.
In the early 1980's, Rosalie committed her life to God. She was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ at the United Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic, Baltimore, Maryland. In 1996, Rosalie departed the United Church of Jesus Christ and joined the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ in Glen Burnie, Maryland where she attended faithfully until prohibited by illness.
Rosalie Edwards leaves to cherish her memories two sons: Charles (Barbara) Edwards, Bruce (Michelle) Edwards, and four daughters: Rosalind King, Vickie (Norman) Kelley, Darlene (John) Malley, Roxanne Veal; Uncle Leroy (Lydia) Walker; nine grandchildren, Marcus, Erin, Renee, Larry, Katya, Keith, Bruce Jr., Brian, and Nicole; six great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
Rosalie Edwards was preceded in death by her daughter, Carmen Edwards who passed on March 19, 2010.
