On July 4, 2024 Roy Delford Hoke, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home with his son and close friends at his bedside.
Roy was born February 1, 1942, in Laurel MD, son of late Everett Roy Hoke and Roxie Anna Howard. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his brother, Harold ”Buddy” Hoke, and sister, Virginia Christine Eller. As well as his longtime companion, and love of his life, Betty Terry, affectionately known to all as “Miss Betty” of Hanover MD.
Roy is survived by his son, Roy D. Hoke, Jr. and daughter in-law, Erica Hoke of Sarasota, FL.; grandsons, Kingston Hoke, Bronson Hoke, Preston Hoke and Holden Hoke, whom he delighted in; brother, David “Skip” Fisher of Dunedin, FL.; nephews Harold E. Hoke, Jr. of Stoney Creek, TN and Troy D. Hoke of Bristol, TN; nieces Tammy L. Hoke of Gray, TN and Roxianna Eller of Brooklyn Park, MD.
A special thanks is in order to friends and caregivers, Tasha Martin and Alice Price, who allowed Roy to live out his final year, and moments at home in peace and dignity.
Roy was a proud Veteran of the United States Army and served in Vietnam in 1967 and 1968, as a supply boat driver. He retired after 30 years of service at the Capital in Washington, DC as a painter for the architect department.
Roy had a passion for cars of all kinds and he could often be seen driving his 1931 Pontiac hot rod or Dodge Viper around town. He loved to help others and was always available to fix things for friends and neighbors. He would often be seen hanging out in his garage offering a water or beer to anyone who stopped by. He will truly be missed.
A funeral will be held at Singleton Funeral Home, Wednesday, July 24th, 2024 at 10:00am. The family will be receiving visitors from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 23rd, 2024, at Singleton Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations in celebration for his life be sent to Sarasota Christian School, attention building fund, in support of a new high school building : Sarasota Christian School, 5415 Bahia Vista Street, Sarasota, FL 34232
