Russell Matteus Jurmu, 90, of Millersville, passed away on December 13, 2022. He was born in Wakefield, Michigan to the late Oskari John and Evi Armeda Jurmu. He attended Anne Arundel Community College and went on to receive his Master’s degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore Campus. He worked for Westinghouse, retiring after 42 years of service. Russell was a dedicated and longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Glen Burnie. He enjoyed reading, spending time with his family, pheasant hunting, traveling, and was an avid fan of the Orioles and former Baltimore Colts. He loved having family gatherings, “Finnish picnics”; that brought him the most joy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Christopher Hedrick; twin brother, Ralph Jurmu; sister, Joyce Jurmu; and brother, Bernie Jurmu.
Russell is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years, Audrey; loving daughters, Diane Jurmu Critzman and her husband, Bill, Kathy Jurmu Dallman and her husband, Rev. Roger Dallman; cherished grandchildren, Stacey Paugh and her husband, Eric, Andrew Dallman, Adam Dallman and Evi Hoy and her husband, Oliver; beloved great-granddaughter, Lydia Hoy; and dear siblings, David Jurmu and his wife, Rae Marie, June Rado and Eva Urso. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, 1 2nd Avenue SW, Glen Burnie, on Sunday, Dec. 18th, from 2 - 5 PM. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, Dec. 19th, 12:30 PM, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 308 Oak Manor Drive, Glen Burnie, MD 21061. Interment will be held at a later date in Wakefield, Michigan. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made in his name to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
