Ruth Bowers

Ruth Joy Bowers (nee Schillinger), 83, of Millersville passed away on March 20, 2023. Joy was born on February 7, 1940 in Severn, Maryland to the late John and Ruth Schillinger. Joy served as the Choir Director and organist at Wesley Grove United Methodist Church for 52 years. She was also a member of the Glen Burnie United Methodist Church. She loved playing music, and enjoyed farming and baking.

Joy is survived by her beloved husband, John S. “Bud” Bowers; her devoted children, Lynda Bowers (Charles Thomas) and Kenneth Bowers (Robin); her cherished grandchildren, Kurt Thickman, Nicholas Bowers, Jennifer Howard (William) and Linsay Joy Bowers; her dear siblings, John Schillinger, Jr., Carol Ann Brong, Betty Lou Russell and James Schillinger, Sr. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Wilbur Schillinger and Donna K. Pumphrey.

The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Ave. SW (at Crain Hwy) on Sunday, March 26th from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at Glen Burnie United Methodist Church on Monday, March 27, 2023 at 10 AM. Interment to follow at Meadowridge Memorial Park.
