Samuel Kay Johnson, Sr., a resident of Severn, MD, for 16 years, formerly of Federal Hill, died on December 17, 2009, with his family at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Sam was born on February 9, 1940, in Trout, West Virginia, to the late Samuel S. and Melissa Sizemore Johnson. He was a member of the Masonic Order and Boumi Temple. He had a life-long career as a Steamfitter, and was a member of Baltimore UA Local 486 for 49 years. Sam was an accomplished musician and entertained in the Baltimore, D.C., Pennsylvania, and West Virginia areas with his band, The Rhythm Lads. He also performed for many years with his family group called the Kinfolk. He enjoyed watching football and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Billie Ellen (nee Mister); his loving sons, Kevin and Jeffery Johnson, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Jeanne; cherished grandchildren, Angela, Jeff, Jr., Bryan, Matthew, Erika, and Nigel; dear siblings, Darrell Johnson and Barbara Whitcomb. He was preceded in death by his dear son, Sammy, brothers, Ernest "Jack", Darius, Elmer, Lacy, and sisters, Glenna, Grace, and Lola.
