Seth Mize, Jr

Seth Albert Mize Jr., 73, of Glen Burnie, passed away on March 11, 2016 at NMS Annapolis Rehab Center. He was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky on May 18, 1942. Seth graduated from Paris American High School, Fontainbleu, France in 1960. He was a Chemistry undergraduate student at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, but left early to enlist in the Navy in 1964. Seth served in the Navy for 25 years and retired as Chief Petty Officer. His ratings were Yeoman (YN), Cryptologic Technician (CT) and Intelligence Specialist (IS). He deployed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Independence CV-62 during the 1980's. Seth served as a Radar Imagery Analyst during Operation Urgent Fury (Grenada Invasion) and support operations before and after the Marine barracks bombing in Beirut, Lebanon. He received numerous decorations and medals from the Navy: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Silver Star and 1 Bronze Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/Device, Navy Unit Commendation (2 awards), RVN Armed Forces MUC (Gallantry Cross Medal Color w/Palm, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Expeditionary Medal (2 awards) and Sea Service Ribbon (2 awards). He was a member of the Maryland Apple Pi and Annapolis Apple Slice Computer user groups, where he served as president. He was a HAM Radio operator and enjoyed going to computer and radio conventions.
Seth was preceded in death by his father, Seth A. Mize Sr. (COL, USAF retired) and brother, Jerry Mize.
He is survived by his wife, Yoshiko Mize; son, William Mize of Glen Burnie; mother, Sylvia "Lucy" Mize of Huntsville, Alabama; and grandson, Jonathan Vance of San Diego, California.
