Starling Alsop

Starling (nee Buckles) Alsop, 91, of Glen Burnie, MD, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister passed away peacefully on December 11, 2018.Born at Ft. Benning, GA on Aug. 13, 1927       Mrs. Alsop moved to the Washington DC area in 1941 and graduated McKinley High School in 1945. She went on to receive a secretarial degree from Strayer Business School in Washington DC. Working for the Federal Government for 30 years, her last position was that of Executive Secretary/Administrative Assistant at NASA Headquarters in Washington DC where she received several exceptional performance awards.Married on March 6, 1949 to Arthur Payne Alsop who lived in Seabrook, MD and retired to Spotsylvania, VA where they lived until her husband’s death in 2008 where upon she moved to Glen Burnie, MD to be close to her daughter Kathy and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Arthur Payne Alsop and her daughter, Sandra Alsop.She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Alsop Wowk; grandson, Daryl Wowk (Melissa); granddaughter, Danielle Wowk; great-granddaughters, Harper Wowk and Nora Wowk all of Glen Burnie; sister, Judith Brigden (Brian) of Galloway, NJ; many nephews and nieces.

The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Ave. SW (at Crain Hwy) on Sunday, Dec. 16th from 2-4 pm. Interment will be private. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Association 415 N. Charles St. Baltimore, MD 21201.
