Sylvia Marie Butkiewicz, 72, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away Tuesday afternoon at her home in Glen Burnie, MD, surrounded by her loving family.
Born January 26, 1943 in Kingston, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Cecelia (Moyer) Szymczak. She worked for Bell Telephone Company and Ruth Parker Eason School as a Para educator. She was a longtime member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church and a past member of the Officers' Wives Clubs. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed hosting dinner parties during her husband's years of Army service. Sylvia enjoyed buying gifts for her loved ones and was an especially doting grandma. Her kindness, generosity and quick smile will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.
Sylvia is survived by her husband of 50 years Col., Ret., Edward J. Butkiewicz, Sr.; four children, EJ and his wife Sheila, Conyngham; John Paul and his wife Christa, Phoenix, AZ; Krystina Bennett and her husband Brian, Pasadena, MD; Matthew and his wife Jennifer, Pasadena, MD; eight grandchildren, Gabriel, Jessica and Miranda Lechuga, Hayley Goladay, and Brandon, Zachary, Jennifer and Lucy Butkiewicz; and her brother Paul Szymczak and his wife Elaine, Hazleton. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
