Parkton

Teddy “Shark” Randolph Barkley Jr., 91, of Parkton, MD, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2024. He was born on February 26, 1932, in Whitmer, WV to parents Teddy Sr. and Silvia Barkley (née Dolly). For 67 years, he was a best friend and devoted husband to Gail Barkley (née Nelson).

Teddy experienced a humble upbringing but was proud of where he came from, his accomplishments, and the life he was able to provide for his family. He honorably served his country in the Air Force before beginning a career at Conoco Chemicals in Baltimore, MD where he worked for 30 years. He later moved to Parkton to be closer to family and enjoyed many fulfilling years of retirement. A religious man, he regularly attended church, most recently Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Freeland, MD.

He was a devoted Mason of more than 60 years and achieved the prestigious 33rd degree in Scottish Rite Masonry.  Ted was member and Past Master of Washington Lodge #3, and a pleural member of Warren Lodge.  He was active in the Boumi Shriners and their Legion of Honor.

He will be fondly remembered for his charismatic presence and deft ability to tell a story, give a blessing, or deliver a speech at a moment’s notice.

Besides his beloved wife Gail, he is survived by his son Steven Barkley (Robin) of Parkton, MD; 2 grandchildren, Jonathan Barkley (Kay) of Lincoln, RI, and Dr. Rachel Barkley of Medford, MA; and brother Jake Barkley (Mary) of Elkins, WV. He was preceded in death by his siblings Nell Tingler, Aileen Rachel “Toop” Wolfe, and Jerome Calhoun. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was especially proud of his two grandchildren, Jonathan and Rachel.

The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, PA., 1 2nd Ave. SW (at Crain Hwy) on Saturday January 13th from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Masonic services will commence at 7 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at Whitmer United Methodist Church, Whitmer, West Virginia on Monday, January 15th at 12 Noon, with a gather preceding the service, from 11-12 pm. Interment to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, a cause that was close to his heart.
