Vincent Columbia

January 10, 1928 — April 30, 2018

Vincent Joseph Columbia, 90, of Canton, Connecticut, formerly of Brooklyn Park, passed away on April 30, 2018. He was born in Baltimore to the late Frank and Josephine Columbia. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1946-1948, serving on various vessels throughout the Pacific, and participated in the Bikini atomic bomb tests. After serving in the Navy, he became a machinist, working at L. Gordon & Son for over 20 years. Vince was very talented working with his hands and on machines, and received a patent for a machine he invented. After retirement, he loved to spend his time working in his wood shop making things for his family. Vince move to Connecticut in 2014 to live with his son and family, and loved to watch the various wild life off the back porch.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Janet Lee Columbia, and his sisters Rosalie Stacey, Anna V. Walsh and Teresa Stewart.
He is survived by his son, Vincent J. Columbia Jr., and his wife, Laurie, daughter Debra A. Ridnour, grandsons William and Alex Columbia, his brother Sam Columbia, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Ave, SW (at Crain Hwy), in Glen Burnie, on Tuesday, May 8th, from 4-8 PM. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, 10 AM, in the funeral home chapel. Interment Glen Haven Memorial Park.
