On January 8, 2016, Wilbert Leroy Markins, 77, passed away at Glen Burnie Health and Rehabilitation. He was born in Baltimore, MD, on November 21, 1938, to the late Mary and Elmer Markins. Wilbert served his country proudly in the U.S. Army as a Private First Class and then went into the Reserves as a Sergeant. Wilbert continued to protect and serve as a 22 year veteran of the Baltimore City Police Department. He was a member of Sharon Lodge 182 and F.O.P. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, cars, and gambling.
Wilbert is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Judy B. Markins; his beloved daughter, Tammy Haigis and her partner Ron; his loving granddaughters, Holly McVey and her husband Joey, and Meghan Schenck; his cherished great-grandchildren, Jordyn Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Carl Schenck, Noah Dull, Joey McVey, Layla McVey, and baby Gannon Jay Leroy McVey on the way; his dear sister, Sandra Southworth and her husband Walter, his niece Shelly Bryl and her husband John; and his best friend and brother-in-law, Earl Nutting and his wife Margaret.
Visitation will be held at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services, 1 2nd Ave, SW (at Crain Hwy) in Glen Burnie, on Monday, January 18th, from 3-5 and 7-9. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, January 19th at 10 AM in the funeral home chapel. Interment MD Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
