William Peter Feimer was born on July 20, 1921. His parents were William and Susanna Hemerka Feimer, who emigrated from Hungary/Rumania in the early 20th century. They lived in Locust Point. Mr. Feimer graduated from Baltimore City College High School in 1939. He attended the University of Maryland. He worked for Glenn L. Martin in Middle River before enlisting to become a pilot in the Army Air Corps. He flew seven missions as a P-40 pilot. In October 1943 his plane was hit by enemy fire and he had to bail out over Italy.
After the war he joined the Baltimore City Police Department, where he worked first as a motorcycle patrolman and eventually as a crime lab technician, which included analyzing drugs and photographing crime scenes. He reenlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, spending time in England and Texas as a Military Police. After the Korean Conflict he returned to the Baltimore City Police Department, retiring in 1971. He remained active in the Air Force Reserve, retiring as a Lt. Col. in 1981. After retiring from the Police Department he joined the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration as a License Examiner, where he worked for over 10 years until he retired in 1983 to become a full-time grandfather.
Mr. Feimer married Louise Simon in 1951. Their first two children, Susan and Billy, were born in England. Their third child, Elisa, was named after the daughter of the Italian family that protected him from the enemy soldiers in Italy.
Survivors include his daughters, Susan Gallagher (husband Michael) and Elisa Minarick (husband John), and grandchildren, Laura and Peter Gallagher and Jack and Beth Minarick.
(Louise Feimer and William Walter Feimer both passed away in 2005).
Mr. Feimer passed away on October 26 after a 10-year struggle with Alzheimers disease.
He maintained his love of airplanes throughout his life. He lived about 2 miles from BWI, and every day when he recognized the sound of the SST flying high above his house around 1:30 pm he would run outside to catch a glimpse of it above the clouds.
He inherited a love of gardening from his father. He had a yard full of tomato plants, mostly grown from the seeds of tomatoes he had eaten all winter. The pit of every peach he ever ate went into the ground, so every visitor to his house was offered a young peach tree (or 2 or 3) to take home.
His other hobbies included crossword puzzles, and creatively fixing anything that was broken.
