William M. Irby, beloved husband, father, and cherished friend, passed away September 19, 2024, in Hanover, Maryland, at the age of 85. Born on October 14, 1938, in Virginia, he lived a life dedicated to service and family. William proudly served his country for 35 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant from the United States Army. His military career was marked by integrity, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to those he served alongside. William carried the values instilled in him throughout his time in the military into every aspect of his life.
William was a family man who enjoyed spending nice days on the grill and relaxing with his family and grandchildren. Beyond his military service, William had a passion for deer hunting, a pursuit that brought him joy and a sense of connection to nature. He was a long-time NRA member. He also cherished the moments spent engaging in conversation with his retired friends at Fort Meade, where these bonds of friendship created a supportive community that meant the world to him.
William M. Irby leaves behind a rich legacy filled with love, honor, and shared memories. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Chae Yon Irby; his daughter, Teresa Irby Ashe and her husband, Bernard Deon Ashe, Sr.; his grandchildren, Bernard William Ashe, Jr. and Brayden Deon Ashe. William Irby will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
His legacy will be honored during visitation services on September 30, 2024, from 5 PM to 8 PM at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services PA, located at 1 2nd Ave SW, Glen Burnie, MD. A second visitation will take place on October 1, 2024, beginning at 12 PM until 12:30 PM at the River of Life Worship Center, situated at 8232 Redmiles Ln, Odenton, MD, followed by a funeral service at the same location at 12:30 PM. William will then receive a graveside service along with military honors at the MD Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD, at 2:30 PM.
