William Murphy

On September 14, 2007 William "Bill" Thomas Murphy of Millersville. Devoted husband of 58 years to Lillian L. Murphy (nee Solowski): Beloved father of Mary D. Kennedy & her husband Thomas, William T. Murphy Jr. & his wife Sheila, Wayne M. Murphy & his wife Cheryl, Nancy M. Bourne & her husband Mike and Sharon L. Powell & her husband Robert; Dearest brother of Genieve Bruscolini, Jaunita Gates, Lulu Brown, Seth Murphy, John Murphy and the late Florence Zyski, Helen Thomas and Andrew Platt; Cherished grandfather of 15 and great-grandfather of 6. Bill was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, but lived in Millersville, Maryland for 49 years. He served his country as a member of the United States Army during WWII as a paratrooper. He was a member of the 680th Glider Field Artillery Battalion - B Battery - of the 17th Airborne Division. He served at the Battle Of The Bulge and the occupied forces in France and Germany. Bill worked for 26 years at Kennecott Copper Refinery until he retired. He built the family's home in Millersville. He was an excellent - and sometimes quite creative - cook and baker. He enjoyed growing his own vegetables in his organic garden. Bill was also an avid reader. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
