Willis Horner

On Wednesday, August 10, 2016, Willis E. "Butch" Horner, age 73, of Edgewater passed away of complications from a stroke. Butch was born in Baltimore, MD on August 25, 1942 to the late Willis J. and the late Mary McPhail Horner. He served in the Navy for 5 years during the Vietnam War and received the Expeditionary and National Defense Medals. Thereafter, he remained in the Navy Reserves for 5 more years. Butch worked for Central Atlantic Toyota, Glen Burnie for 40 years with his last position as Dealer Development Manager traveling to the Mid-Atlantic Area Toyota Dealers. He made great friends and entertained them with his singing and Elvis impersonations. Butch had the knack and personality to make people laugh and did that often. He had a great obsession with golf and played all over the United States and many different countries with his favorite being St. Andrews in Scotland where he played with his best friend Wendell. Butch belonged to Wakefield Valley Golf Course in Westminster, Crofton Country Club in Crofton and South River Country Club in Davidsonville.
He is survived by his wife, Judy "J.R." Rae-Horner (nee Brown) of 25 years; 2 stepdaughters, Kelly Buckland Saine and her husband Chuck and Kym Buckland Dirks and her husband John; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren who he loved dearly; his sisters, Darnell Day of Arkansas, Betty Whyel of Ohio, June Robinson of Baltimore; brother, Robert "Jack" Horner of Baltimore and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Horner, Sr. of Baltimore and 2 sisters.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Butch's name to Saint Jude Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
