Dorothy W. Drenner

January 16, 1925 — June 17, 2022

On June 17, 2022; Dorothy W. Drenner (Weckesser); beloved wife of the late Dewey A. Drenner; devoted mother of Dennis A. Drenner and his wife Barbara, Darlene A. Gilligan and her late husband Rick, Douglas A. Drenner and his wife Lynne, Dale A. Drenner and his wife Connie; loving sister of David Weckesser and his wife Barbara, Maysie Presti Corrieri, and the late Norman Weckesser. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was a positive force in our lives. After graduating from Western High School in the accelerated “Victory Program”, she began serving our country by working for the Red Cross facilitating communication with families of soldiers. On January 27, 1945 she married Dewey Alvin Drenner and they remained happily married until his death in February 2010.

Together Dorothy and Dewey, with the help of family, constructed a home (over 3 years) in Garland Park, Maryland.

Dorothy was always a family first person, modeling the best values for her children and helping extended family whenever possible.

She was a talented seamstress and dress designer. She made nearly all of her own clothes, as well as many for family. Dorothy was also an award winning watercolor artist in her later years.  Many of her works of art were displayed in local art exhibits. Inspired by nature and the love of the outdoors, much of her artwork was created at her beloved mountain cabin in West Virginia.

Dorothy was also very proud of her German heritage. During the war our German relatives here in the U.S. supported their relatives in need in Germany. Dorothy later visited our relatives in Germany, and formed a lasting bond.

Dorothy graduated with a bachelor’s degree (with honors) from the University of Maryland in 1985, at age 60.

Dorothy leaves this world a better place for having lived. She was a kind, loving, generous, Christian woman. She will be missed.
