Edward Cybert

March 10, 1940 — April 3, 2020

Edward Cybert of Severn, MD, age 80, passed away at home on Friday, April 3, 2020, where he has lived for over 50 years. Ed was preceded in death by his parents Katherine and Joseph Cybert of Plum, PA.

Ed is survived by his devoted and beloved wife Phyllis; his loving children, Michele Potter and her husband, Jim, and Kevin Cybert, and his wife, Wendy; sister Dorothy Petrosky and her husband Ted; cherished grandchildren, Courtney Cybert, Mike Cybert, Ryan Potter, and Andy Potter.

Ed has always been known for his kind and caring attitude.  He was a devoted family man his entire life. His strength in the face of adversity while maintaining a positive attitude has been an inspiration to all who knew him.

Ed was born in Hooversville, PA on March 10, 1940.  He then moved to Plum, PA where he spent most of his formative years.  Ed was an athlete during high school playing both basketball and football. After high school, he entered the US Army.  He was stationed in Texas, Korea, and then in Florida in response to the Cuban missile crisis.

After the Army, he worked for a few years in South Carolina and Georgia, before taking a job in Maryland at Westinghouse as a Field Engineer.  He spent the rest of his career there through many corporate name changes and moved into engineering management. When he moved to Maryland, he settled in Severn, MD where he spent the rest of his life.

Education was important to Ed and he embodied that belief by achieving two degrees – a Bachelor’s in Accounting from the University of Maryland and a Master’s in Management from Johns Hopkins University.  He achieved both of these degrees by going to night school while working full time.

Ed had many interests and most of them revolved around his family.  Being with his family was his favorite activity by far.  He also enjoyed fishing, spending time outdoors, vacations with his family - especially to Deep Creek and the beach, and traveling.  He spent many years watching all of his grandchildren participate in their many sports and enjoyed rooting for his Maryland Terps.

There will be a private viewing and service held for the immediate family.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ed’s name to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122 (or online at www.hospicechesapeake.org/giving/donate-now.) or to St. Bernadette Parish, 801 Stevenson Road, Severn, Maryland 21144.
