Gloria Holland

Gloria Ann (Palumbo) Holland, a longtime resident of Glen Burnie, died from complications associated with ovarian cancer on September 16, 2011.
Dr. Holland was born July 9, 1944, in Scranton, PA. She was the daughter of Veronica Eleanor (Polcha) and Joseph John Palumbo (both deceased), and the proud mother of her daughters, Ann-Marie and Catherine Ellen Holland. She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Michael Palumbo, and survived by her brother, James Anthony Palumbo, and sister, Maria Antoinette Wendt. A graduate of Glen Burnie High School (1962) and a member and officer of the Harundale Sub Debutante Club, she went on to enjoy a 19-year career with NSA and a one year assignment with Ford Aerospace. She worked for 12 years at Anne Arundel Community College as director of Training for Business and Industry, and she completed her professional career at Towson University in 2010 where she retired as the executive director of Technology Support and Academic Initiatives. Dr. Holland earned her doctoral degree in Programs for Higher Education from NSU (1996); her masters in Instructional Systems Development from UMBC (1989) and her bachelor's in Communications Media from Bowie University (1984). In 1996 she received a distinguished research award from NSU and was a member of the National Institute for Leadership Development class of 1989 and Towson University's Leadership class of 1999. In 2010 she was also inducted into Glen Burnie High School's Alumni Wall of Honor, and she was the founder and first president of Friends on the Goa�"a ladies social and travel group.
Gloria enjoyed family, entertaining, traveling in Europe, reading and gardening. In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, Hospice of the Chesapeake or to the Joseph M. Palumbo Scholarship at Towson University (checks made payable to Towson University Foundation and directed to Tracey Ford), 8000 York Rd, Towson, MD 21252.
