On November 8, 2005, James "Jim" R. King Sr. of Glen Burnie passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. The devoted husband of Janet M. King (nee Snyder) for 39 years; Beloved father of James R. King Jr. and Janine M. Thomas and her husband Matt; Cherished son of George and Mary King; Loving brother of George and William King and Judy Wolfe; Adoring grandfather of Madison Thomas. He is predeceased by his grandparents, Roy and Laura Davis and George and Marie King.
Jim worked as a Chief Warrant Officer III for the U.S. Coast Guard until he retired after 24 years of service. He was a member of the Mason Lodge #213, Treasurer of the Glen Burnie Lions Club, supporting member of the A.A. County Alarmers, charter member of the 100 Club of A.A. County and a member of the Glen Burnie Improvement Association. He also coached Glen Burnie Girls Softball and Boys Baseball leagues for 10 years, was a volunteer at the Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Company #33, assisted in Job's Daughters and the Boy Scouts of America and was active in his children's bowling leagues when they were young. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer and was on the church council and currently served as an usher. Jim volunteer for over 20 years at the Glen Burnie carnival. He was active in the Relay for Life. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his granddaughter Madison. He collected stamps, trucks and coins. Jim like to go fishing with his son-in-law Matt. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, cooking and doing crossword puzzles. Jim also had a interest in the Civil War.
