On July 13, 2014 Jean Kaydell "Kay" Allman Ritchie lost her life to ALS. Jean was born on June 26, 1937 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. On May 12, 1955 Jean graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School. In that same year, she was crowned Miss Charlotte Marine Reserve. Wade Ritchie Jr. soon realized what a beauty she was and the two of them were engaged in August of 1956 and married later that year on December 15, 1956. Jean then went on to graduate from Cabarrus Memorial Hospital and become a Certificated Registered Nurse in 1958. Four years later, in 1962, Jean began her career at Crownsville State Hospital. In 1976 she relocated to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington, DC, where she eventually became a Health Systems Administrator. She worked there until her retirement in 1997. During her time at St. Elizabeth's, she went back to school and received her Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration from Saint Joseph's College on September 1, 1989.
Contributions can be made in Jean's name to the building fund of Annapolis Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1203 West Street, Suite F, Annapolis, MD 21401.
