On April 27, 2016, Mildred Ethel Strawsburg, 92, passed away at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. Mrs. Strawsburg was born and educated in Shelby, North Carolina. She met her husband, Truman, during WWII. They were married and came to Maryland in 1946. They moved to Glen Burnie in 1951 and she spent her time as a homemaker and traveled with her husband and his work.
She was a lifetime member of Glen Burnie Baptist Church. She was also a Girl Scout leader, a Community Director, and a volunteer at Richard Henry Lee School. Mildred worked for a number of years at the former North Arundel Convalescent Center as a Social Director, helping to start Therapeutic Recreation in Anne Arundel County. She enjoyed crafts, cooking for church functions, teaching Sunday school, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Mildred is survived by three daughters, Gail Wells of Las Vegas, NV, Janice Reid and her husband Ronald of Stevensville, MD, and Joyce Bernoski of Vero Beach, FL; one son, Thomas Strawsburg and his wife Linda of Sykesville, MD; five grandchildren, Paul Ambrose, Keith Bernoski, Bryan Bernoski, Tommi-anna Smith, and David Strawsburg; three great-grandsons, Landon, Emmitt, and Wyatt; and her sister, Betty Gibbs of North Carolina. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 49 years, Truman Strawsburg, and her dear brother, James Walker.
