Phillip Howard

July 13, 1939 — April 11, 2017

Phillip "Phil" James Howard, 77, of Linthicum, MD, passed away surrounded by his family on April 11, 2017, after a brief illness and a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Born in Baltimore on July 13, 1939, to the late Josephine (Moore) and William F. Howard, Phil attended high school at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. He received a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Maryland and a law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law.
After working for DuPont after college, Phil spent most of his career as a tax attorney for the IRS Office of Chief Counsel for 37 years before retiring in 2004. After his retirement, Phil enjoyed working as a bailiff at the Circuit Courthouse in Annapolis and as a docent at the Sports Legends Museum at Camden Yards. Phil was a sports fanatic. He loved to cheer for the Orioles and the Terps, and was a die-hard Baltimore Colts fan before later adopting the Ravens as his favorite football team. Phil was a kind man, who enjoyed volunteering at local schools, playing cards with friends, reading, and doing word and Sudoku puzzles. Above all, he treasured the time he spent with his family and friends.
Married for 44 years to Darlene (Davidson) Howard, Phil is also survived by daughter, Melissa Jimeno, and her husband, Greg, of Millersville, MD, and son, Matthew Howard, and his wife, Meghan, of Fairfax Station, VA. Phil adored his four granddaughters, Alexa and Rebecca Jimeno and Gwyneth and Serena Howard. He was also a loving brother of Diane Leberknight and the late William R. Howard, and brother-in-law of Dianne D'Alberto and Beverly Braun.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (michaeljfox.org).
