Wallace “Wally” Gilbert Benner, 91, of Severn, passed away at his home on October 23, 2022. He was born in Baltimore to the late John William and Elsie Mae Benner. Wally honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He went on to work for Westinghouse and retired after 30+ years. He enjoyed coaching boy’s lacrosse with St. Mark’s Lacrosse in Catonsville, playing tennis and sailing. His greatest joy of all was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wally was a great dancer and the “life of the party”; to know him was to love him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David J. Benner; and his two brothers, Harry and John Benner.
Wally is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Gerri; loving children, Theresa E. Polm (Richard E. Polm) and Thomas P. Benner (Mary Botticelli); dear daughter-in-law, Karen Benner; beloved grandchildren, Jason Polm (Jenny), Daniel Polm (Chelsea Raque), Laura Koivula (Mikael), Ryan Benner and Nicholas Benner; and cherished great-grandchildren, Luke Polm, Natalie Polm, Octavia Koivula and Aurora Koivula.
